Thanks to his work Australian eucalyptus and many varieties of palm trees can now be seen on the French Riviera. And the sumptuous green parks became homes to luxurious palaces and villas for Europeans of high standing.
Charles Garnier, the architect of the Opera in Paris and the Casino in Monte-Carlo, built Villa Eilenroc here.
Then came the Villa Les Chênes Verts (Green Oaks), Château la Garupe, as well as Villa Eden Roc and Villa Soleil, which make up the famous hotel de Cap-Eden-Roc.
Château de la Croë was built for Sir Pomeroy Burton. In the first half of the 20th century this palace welcomed the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, as well as Mr and Mrs Churchill.
